The Commonwealth Election Commission’s voter registration drive at the Kagman High School library last Friday was able to attract 62 persons, most of them students.

A total of 58 were new voters while four were re-registrations, CEC executive director Julita Villagomez disclosed yesterday.

There was another voter registration drive during the Northern Marianas College’s Charter Day celebration last Friday and the CEC was able to register 33 people.

As of yesterday, they were still processing those 33 registered voters, she added.

As of yesterday, there were a total of 16,812 registered voters in the CNMI, including those who registered at Kagman High School, Villagomez said.

CEC election register clerk Robin Sablan said that, although they were expecting to register 200 persons at Kagman High School and netted only 62, they still consider the number a good turnout.

“Ten persons a day is a good turnout,” Sablan said, adding that they are planning to hold registrations at Tanapag Junior High School to get those senior high school students studying in Kagman but residing in Tanapag, As Matuis, and San Roque.

Sablan said they are also planning to hold registration drives at Saipan Southern High School in Koblerville and at the Marianas High School in Susupe.

CEC is targeting to register students who will be turning 18 years old on or before the Nov. 6 general election.

CEC is reminding students and members of the community to bring a copy of their birth certificate as certified by the court, a valid U.S. passport, or naturalization documents to show proof of their citizenship.
