A 4.6-magnitude earthquake occurred near Farallon de Pajaros while a temblor of the same magnitude happened near Rota last week. No one was reported injured and no damage to property was also reported in the CNMI.

The earthquake occurred 127.4 miles north northwest of Farallon De Pajaros last Thursday at 5:50am.

The other earthquake occurred 67.7 miles west northwest of Rota last Wednesday at 10:55pm.

The two earthquakes were not felt on Saipan.

Meanwhile, a 4.7 earthquake occurred 21 miles south southeast of Inarajan, Guam last Monday.

According to the CNMI Emergency Operations Center, no tsunami warnings or advisories were issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center for the three earthquakes.

Early last month, three earthquakes occurred in a three-day period near Farallon de Pajaros and Pagan, but no one was reported injured nor was there damage to property.

U.S. Geological Survey seismologist Aaron G. Wech told Saipan Tribune earlier that the recent earthquakes were the result of the Pacific plate colliding with and sinking beneath the Philippine Sea plate.

Wech said the series of earthquakes are normal and expected in tectonic settings like the CNMI.
