Kanoa Football Club prevailed in the pair of Division A matches in the 2018 Dove Spring Women’s League last week at the artificial turf at the TSL Sports Complex.
In the first game, Kanoa FC-1 edged TanHoldings, 2-1, while Kanoa-2 topped Shirley’s FC in the second tiff last April 5, 6-3.
Irish Pagarao towed Kanoa-2 to victory over Shirley’s after making a hat trick, while Mikky Vargas, Krizel Tuazon, and Janelle Chognaki scored one goal apiece for the winning squad. Chognacki started things off for Kanoa-2 with her shot in the third minute, while Pagarao and Vargas both hit the board in the four-minute mark of the first half to lift their team to a 3-2 halftime lead.
Marriele Gariguez and Lilian Podziewski registered the two goals for Shirley’s in the first half, while Katrina Costales recorded the squad’s lone goal in the second to hand Kanoa-2 the victory. Pagarao had a brace in the second half, while Tuazon also lit up the board in that period.
In the other Division A game, Sharmaine Francisco knocked in the go-ahead goal in the 33rd minute to lift Kanoa-1 to the close win. Earlier in the 15th minute, Erika Santiago scored for Kanoa-1’s 1-0 halftime advantage.
TanHoldings got an own goal early in the second half to tie the match before Francisco broke the deadlock past the halfway mark of the final frame.
With the victory, Kanoa-1 now has a 2-1-0 win-draw-loss record for the solo lead in the five-team field, while TanHoldings (1-0-1) is ranked fourth, pending results of last night’s matches. Kanoa-1 is slightly ahead of Kanoa-2 (1-1-0) and Paire (1-0-1). Shirley’s is at the bottom of the field with its 0-0-3 slate.
