Joey Dela Cruz and J.R. Suel turned in impressive performances to lead the Bridge Capital Pirates in beating the still luckless Cubs, 8-2, in the Majors division of the 20018 Saipan Little League Baseball last Saturday at the Miguel Basa “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Ballfield.
Dela Cruz, who struck out in the first inning, went 3-for-4 with two doubles to go with his RBI and one run and helped the Pirates even their record to 3-3. The Pirates, more importantly, stayed close behind undefeated teams Taalabwogh Falcons (6-0) and Kagman Little (5-0), and the Natibu Sports Association Braves (5-1).
Suel, meanwhile, was solid on the mound where he pitched a complete game. Both of the Cubs’ runs were earned. Suel, despite giving up two earned runs, limited the Cubs to five hits while striking out eight and walking three. Albert Adriano and Badung Lizama, who both had singles, scored the runs in the sixth inning for the Cubs, who dropped their fifth straight game.
Meanwhile, the Comets won by default against the Twins in the other Majors division game to hike their record to 2-4, while their opponents are now 0-5.
MINOR DIVISION
Cubs 5, Comets 3
Joseph Lizama and Robert Manglona had a triple each in the second and third innings to lift the Cubs past the Comets.
Paul Lizama pitched a one-hit game with six strikeouts and one walk in two plus innings on the mound.
JUNIORS DIVISION
Chiefs 17, Braves 9
Patrick Celis drove in two runs, while Shane Mallens pitched four innings in relief and the Chiefs used a 12-run fourth inning to clinch their fourth win in six games.
Celis went 4-for-5 with three runs, while Mallens gave up four hits while striking out eight and walking two.
Comets I 12, Falcons 2
J.P. Castro went 3-for-3, including an RBI-bunt single in the fourth, as the Comets kept their clean record after seven games. The Falcons, on the other hand, are now 3-4.
Castro also scored three times and drove in three more, while Ross Arriola went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
