Third of a four-part series
The first port call in SuperStar Virgo’s Summer Getaway cruise from March 5 to 10 was Okinawa, Japan where participants of Resorts World Manila’s familiarization tour were given the opportunity to explore the beautiful city of Naha.
Media outlets and tourism specialists from Saipan, Guam, and Hawaii were given an all-expense paid trip aboard Star Cruises’ SuperStar Virgo as a part of the Resorts World Manila’s familiarization tour.
On the third day of the five-night, six-day cruise, SuperStar Virgo reached Okinawa Japan. Fam tour participants were given the opportunity to explore some of Naha City’s historical landmarks.
After a terribly long disembarkation process, fam tour participants set foot on the beautiful port of Naha and were immediately greeted by Okinawa’s cool Spring breeze.
During the first part of the tour around Naha City, fam tour participants were taken to the biggest mall located in Naha, Aeons. Alongside the fam tour participants was the hit ’70s band The Boyfriends, who gave fam tour participants a taste of their sweet vocals.
Fam tour participants were given a little over an hour to have lunch and to shop before the tour’s next stop.
Aeons was an enormous mall that held over 30 different shopping outlets and offered a vast selection of restaurants to appeal to everyone.
After the shopping spree, fam tour participants were transported to Shurijo Castle Park, the castle that belonged to King Shurijo who untied the entire prefecture of Okinawa before it became part of Japan.
Although the journey into the castle was long and the passage was a bit steep, tourists and fam tour participants enjoyed the 15-minute trek thanks to the beautiful Okinawan weather and to the many historical monuments to be seen along the way.
After about two hours of exploring Shurijo Castle, fam tour participants were transported to the last stop spot on the list of sites to see on the Okinawa trip, Okinawa’s Kokusai street.
Kokusai Street was originally known as “The Mmiracle Mile” because of its speedy recovery after World War II.
The mile-long street is littered with little shops and restaurants and is one of Okinawa’s tourist attractions.
Fam tour participants were given two hours to explore the street and shop for whatever trinkets they wanted to bring home and to try the delectable Japanese street foods.
Two hours was not enough time to fully explore Kokusai Street because there were over 100 vendors that were placed on both sides of the street. Some vendors sold little trinkets and souvenirs that represent Okinawa, some sold street good, some sold clothing, but all were respectful and kind to tourists and locals alike.
