A day aboard SuperStar Virgo

Second of a four-part series

A day aboard the SuperStar Virgo is like none you could ever imagine with the amount of activities offered to the hospitality of the vessel’s crew and the mouth-watering food served to each guest.

As part of the Resorts World Manila’s familiarization tour from March 5 to 10, participants from Saipan, Guam, and Hawaii were taken aboard one of Genting Hong Kong’s open ocean cruise vessels that have made Manila its home port, the SuperStar Virgo.

Genting Hong Kong is a major stakeholder of RWM and is a leading leisure, entertainment, and hospitality enterprise within South East Asia.

Its primary business activities are cruises and cruise-related operations under the brand of Star Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Lines. Star Cruises together with NCL, is the third largest cruise operator in the world with a combined fleet of 19 ships cruising to over 200 destinations worldwide, offering close to 39,000 lower berths.

Upon boarding the SSV, fam tour participants were immediately greeted by a diverse and beyond-accommodating staff.

The staff was helpful and strived to make the boarding process as smooth as possibly despite the influx of cruise goers.

Aboard the vessel, new fam tour participants were left in a daze at the ship’s grandeur. The vessel’s floors were lined with velvet red, blue, or green carpets that were accented with touches of gold and browns.

The cabins, although not as spacious as one may be accustomed to, were comfortable enough and mimicked your standard hotel room.

On the first day aboard SSV, fam tour guests along with a thousand other cruisers were mandated to join the vessel’s safety training so that every individual is aware of what is to be done in case of emergencies.

After 20 minutes of safety training, cruisers were dismissed to do as they pleased and to explore the vessel.

Following the training, the SSV fam tour participants were brought to Star Dining, SSV’s largest restaurant. Media outlets from Guam, Hawaii, CNMI, and travel agents invited to participate in the fam tour were treated to a gourmet three-course meal. Afterwards, fam tour guests were dismissed to explore what the vessel had in stored while traveling on high seas.

Over 13 different bars and restaurants were placed in every deck. Guests aboard the SSV were welcome to try the array of cuisines the vessel had to offer from Chinese cuisine, to Indian cuisine, to Filipino, the diversity was uncanny.

On board the SSV, cruisers can take advantage of the many activities offered. Fam tour participants availed of a few of the many activities.

The vessel offers a great quality, 24-hour gym and a basketball court for cruisers who choose to burn off the calories put on from all the amazing choices of food offered.

The SSV crew also put on live shows for the entire five-day cruise in intervals. The shows were performed at the Zodiac Theater, which could accommodate over 1,000 viewers.

Activities such as bingo, poker, slot machines, and more were open for cruisers who felt they could test their luck and double their bets.

Other activities such as creating portraits out of paint were also offered. The Star Navigator was passed out for cruisers to remain aware of all the great experiences that SSV offers because Star Cruises believes that it is not about the destination, it’s about the journey.
