CNMI JROTC Spring Leadership Camp a success

The CNMI JROTC Spring Leadership Camp, hosted by Kagman High School, was held at Saipan Southern High School from March 23 to 26, 2018 was an outstanding success.
All five high schools— Rota, Marianas, Tinian, Kagman, and Saipan Southern high schools—and seven Army instructors participated in full force for the military style leadership training and friendly competition.
The 124 cadets went through rigorous events like land navigation, where cadets were tasked to find four points with a compass to earn their orienteering badge and ribbon. The other events included drown-proofing at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool; summing competition; a land rope bridge crossing; a leadership reaction course, where cadets had to negotiate obstacles; and first-aid CPR training to save lives.
After all of that excitement, each school JROTC teams competed in basketball, with SSHS wining first place; volleyball with RHS taking first place; Tap Out, the skill of drill marching, was tested with Rota sweeping the competition winning first place; and then swimming where the KHS male swimmers swam the full length of the pool and took first place with Rota winning the female first place that swam half the distance of the pool.
Later an award ceremony was held, where Board of Education member Herman Atalig with the SSHS principal Vince Delacruz handed out 14 trophies in total.
The camp ended with a night of fun, where cadets had a talent show and socializing with a pizza party that topped it off for all who attended the CNMI JROTC camp. (PR)
