SSC thanks participants, sponsors of swim meet

The 2018 Saipan Swim Club International Meet and 39th Annual SSC Ocean Swim were completed over the weekend, thanks to the participants, officials, sponsors, volunteers, and the visiting teams.
“This was by far the fastest meet we have hosted in the last five years and the depth and talent level of swimming in the North Pacific has definitely increased in the last five years. There were many club and national age groups broken and many more personal best times. The camaraderie that has grown among the teams has been great to witness. Times are important, but the friendships will last forever,” SSC coach Jacoby Winkfield said.
Over 100 swimmers in the U8 to over 17 age group raced at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool, while more than 100, too competed in the ocean swim in the lagoon near Naked Fish in Susupe. SSC members led the participants in both the swim meet and ocean swim and they were joined in the races by Andersen Marlins, Typhoons Swim Club, Manhoben, Manukai, and Tsunami Guam, Palau, Pohnpei, and Tsunami Swimming Center Saipan members.
“I would like to thank Marianas Resort for their continued support and going the extra mile to make the pool look great for the swim meet. We received many compliments from the off-island teams about how great the pool looked. Thanks to UR Tents for their continued support of the Saipan Swim Club and to the off-island teams for coming,” Winkfield said.
“Special thanks to the parents of SSC Swimmers for their dedication, hard work, and commitment to CNMI swimming. Without their support, SSC would not be able to continue hosting meets like this,” he added.
Next up for SSC is the Escape from Managaha on April 7. Registration is $30 before April 1 and $35 after that. The boat will leave Smiling Cove at 6am. For more information, send email to saipanswimclub@gmail.com.
