The Ol’Aces reached past the century mark anew to hammer the Genesis All-Stars, 107-80, in the curtain-raiser in the 2018 MIBF Island-wide Basketball League last Friday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Coming off a 144-58 thrashing of the Saints during the league’s opener last March 19, the Ol’Aces’ guns were blazing in the third quarter as they turned a 12-point halftime lead, 58-46, to an 85-65 advantage, entering the final canto.
Again, the Ol’Aces had too many options on offense that it was difficult for the Genesis All-Stars to pick their poison. Jack Lizama was one of the go-to-guys for the Ol’Aces, making 8 of his 12 markers in the third-period scoring surge. Six other Ol’Aces players hit the board in the third canto.
In the final frame, the Ol’Aces used a new combination led by Marvin Rabauliman to finish off the Genesis All-Stars. Rabauliman ended up top-scoring for the Ol’Aces with his 17 points, while Lizama and Dan Barcinas also had double figures with 12 and 11. Six other Ol’Aces players chipped in at least 6 points each.
Maverick Itibus had 17 markers to pace the Genesis All-Stars, who dropped to a 0-2 record.
Meanwhile, in the other men’s division game last Friday, the Ol’Aces Extra also eased past the CK Ballers, 70-47.
The Ol’Aces Extra spread the wealth to down the CK Ballers. Jesse Santos led the way for the winning squad with his 16 points and had 10 of his teammates also scoring against the CK Ballers.
