Hong Ye splits games in Civic Center caging

Hong Ye played better in the second half to rally past Alamo RAC, 65-57, during their match in the 2018 Civic Center Inter-color Basketball League last Tuesday at the Civic Center court.
Down by double figures at the break, 24-39, Hong Ye held Alamo to 8 points in the third quarter to get back into the game and then caught fire in the fourth to complete the come-from-behind win.
Hong Yeng scored 14 points in the third period and limited Alamo to two field goals and three free throws to cut the deficit to single digit, 38-47. Norman Sahagun and Ed Armia had 4 points apiece in the penultimate canto, while Eugene Manglona, Jeff Fernandez, and Mark Merido added one field goal each to keep Hong Yeng’s hopes alive. Carl Aldan and Donnel Isip made the field goals in Alamo’s third-quarter meltdown.
Alamo continued to fall in the final canto, while Efren Tanagras Jr. stepped up for Hong Ye after going scoreless in the second and third to hand his squad the 8-point win. Tanagras had 10 points in the fourth quarter, while big men Sahagun and Hal Spott combined for 11 markers.
Sahagun top-scored for Hong Ye with his 18 points, while Tanagras and Spott finished with 13 and 10, respectively.
The win over Alamo allowed Hong Ye to bounce back from a 51-59 loss to Chowtime last Sunday.
Jomac Manzano and Ton Broncano delivered timely baskets in the fourth quarter to help Chowtime’s cause. Manzano dropped 8 of his 10 points in the final frame, while Broncano had 6. Jawn Joyner and Ramsa Tenepere combined for 7 markers and the former ended up with a team-high 13 points and the latter also finished in twin digits with his 11.
Sahagun paced Hong Ye with hid 17 points.
Thunder 67, RNV 59
In the other match last Sunday, the Thunder struck RNV Construction.
The Thunder buckled down to work in the second half, turning a 26-31 halftime deficit to a 52-47 cushion and finishing off its opponent in the fourth quarter.
Held to less than 20 points in each of the first two periods, the Thunder registered 26 in the third to grab the upper hand from RNV. Jerome Directo and Ron Gamboa teamed up for 13 points for the Thunder in the pivotal third. Then in the fourth canto, it was the turn of J.R, Mina and Leri Ortiz to join forces and power the Thunder to the 8-point win, as the duo totaled for 11 points.
Budotz 67, Civic Masters 59
Budotz also got its rhythm in the second half to beat the Civic Masters.
Behind at the break, 21-27, Budotz fired 20 points in the third canto against the 9 of the struggling Civic Masters to take the driver’s seat, 41-36, going into the final quarter.
Budotz then delivered the killer blows in the payoff period behind the two triples of Jeff Che and Arjay Nonato’s 7 points to earn the victory. Six other Budotz players scored in the team’s fourth-quarter scoring surge, while only five hit the board for the Civic Masters.
