Saipan Vegas hosts invitational golf tourney
Saipan Vegas Resort & Golf Course will be celebrating its first anniversary with an Invitational Golf Tournament tomorrow at 10:30am at the former Saipan Country Club. Show-time at the by invitation-only golf event is at 10am.
The tournament is to honor the locals who learned and started playing the sport in the first golf course on the island, which was built in 1962 by the U.S. military and was handed over to a private business in 1976.
Saipan Vegas, owned and operated by MP Holdings LLC, is also using the tournament to thank the members of their golf course along with their friends and business partners and golfers that share special memories at the nine-hole facility.
Prizes will be given away to closest to the pin in all the par-3 holes, the straightest and longest drives, the closest to the curved line, and the low gross.
MP Holdings bought SCC, or formerly known as Whispering Palms, on May 2016, a few months after Typhoon Soudelor ravaged the island and forced the golf course to close down due to extensive damage.
SCC has a yardage of 2,085 for the blue tees and 2,024 for the white. It has been a favorite for beginners and a good practice course for long-time players.
