TRAC introduces triathlon to youngsters

The Triathlon Association of the CNMI revived the Taga Kids last Saturday with more than 30 youngsters signed up to test their mettle in the multisport event at Paupau Beach.
Official times were not recorded since the race aimed at giving kids a taste of triathlon in a fun and non-competitive environment. The race was divided into the 5-8, 9-12, and 13-16 age groups with the course just around Paupau Beach to ensure the safety of all participants.
All competitors received finisher’s medals and shirts, while the Top 3 were in each age group were also recognized at the awards ceremony.
Participants in the U8 were the first to go around the course that featured a 50-meter swim and one loop each in the bike and run legs, while U12 entries had a 100m swim and two loops each in the bike and run portions. It was an organized chaos as parents and adults cheered the children from start to finish or from the swim to the run leg of the race.
For the 13-16 age group, most of the participants were Agape Christian School students. The division had a 750m swim around Paupau; a 20K bike from the beach heading toward Seafix, going to Banzai, and back to the starting line; and 5K run from Paupau to Ayuyu Drive and back to Paupau.
Several adults also had their first try of the Tagaman sprint course with some competing individually and others joining a three-member team relay.
