GSM remains unbeaten in SBL
Kevin Kapileo pitched a complete game and Franco Nakamura drove in three runs in Go See Mark’s thrilling 8-7 win over the Falcons in the 2018 Saipan Baseball League last Thursday night at the Francisco M. Palacios Ballfield.
GSM remained unbeaten with the slim victory, clinching its fifth straight win and the solo lead in the 10-team field, while handing the Falcons their first loss in five matches.
Kapileo allowed six hits with all of the Falcons’ runs unearned, while striking out nine and walking none. He pitched three shutout innings despite giving up a triple to Bradley Lieto in the second. Giovanni Mira and A.J. Evangelista were the only Falcons batters that had two hits against Kapileo with the former going 2-for-5 with three runs and the latter hitting 2-for-3 with one run after a bunt single in the fifth.
Falcons’ third baseman J.J. Lifoifoi was the other batter that recorded a hit against Kapileo, as the former made an infield RBI single in the seventh to bring home Mira.
The rest of the Falcons went 0-for-27 against Kapileo with seven batters striking out.
Nakamura, meanwhile, only went 1-for-5 with his lone hit a bases-clearing triple at bottom of the fifth. He also scored a run in the same inning.
After Dung Lieto retired Manny Sablan, he gave up consecutive walks to Pat Alepuyo and Vince Cepeda before allowing a single to Diego Camacho to load up the bases and set up Nakamura’s bases-clearing triple.
Cepeda had two RBIs after going 2-for-3 with a run and a double, while Camacho went 2-for-2 with one run. Sablan and Pete Tomokane also drove in a run each. Byron Kaipat went 2-for-5 with one run, while Alepuyo had a double on a 1-for-3 batting and scored twice.
Meanwhile, today’s game will have the Blue Jays taking on Titanium at 7pm, while GSM shoots for win No. 6 against the luckless Indians tomorrow.
