PSS: 97 will get increase after certification
The 97 Public School System instructors who were reportedly excluded from the pay hike implemented in the Board of Education’s approved compensation plan were actually on the list of those who are supposed to get pay raises but must first obtain the required credentials for them to get their well-deserved increase.
According to a statement provided by PSS, “the CNMI Public School System is stating for the record that all PSS personnel (including the 97 personnel) received a salary adjustment effective Oct. 1, 2017.”
However, as PSS also mentions in its statement, the 97 personnel were still not awarded their pay increase, and will not be awarded their increases, until they become compliant with PSS’ certification requirements.
The PSS statement was issued in response to a Saipan Tribune article, titled “Wage Hike skips 97 instructors,” which quoted Lucretia Borja, the PSS Human Resources director, of reporting to the Board of Education that about 97 individuals from about 1,000 PSS instructors were excluded from the compensation pay that the board adopted at the October 2017 board meeting.
“Once these 97 personnel comply with the certification requirements and obtain a certification, then their salaries will be adjusted. The salary placement will be based on the certification level that they attained,” said the PSS statement.
The 97 personnel include teachers, counselors, and instructors. Most of these personnel have been with PSS for about 10 to 15 years.
