Gunshots were heard in Papago and in Kagman last Sunday but no suspects were found, the Department of Public Safety confirmed yesterday.

DPS spokesperson Jacqueline Rae Shepard said a DPS police officer on patrol heard the gunshots in Papago at 4:30pm.

Shepard said the officer alerted DPS dispatch, prompting officers to do an extensive patrol of the area.

No suspects were found and no additional shots were heard.

DPS later gave the area the all-clear.

A second incident then occurred in Kagman, Shepard said, when DPS dispatch received a call at 6pm about gunshots being fired in the area.

Officers responded to the scene and also did an extensive search.

“No armed suspects were found, no additional shots were heard, and Kagman was given the all-clear,” Shepard said.

The DPS spokesperson reminded the public that if they hear what they believe to be gunshots, they should not investigate on their own but call 911.

She said DPS will investigate immediately.

With rumors circulating on social media about alleged shooting incidents, DPS on Sunday night issued a statement in its Facebook account to inform the community and to dispel any rumors that there is no active shooter incident on the island.
