Tinian gets a new water tank

The Tinian community celebrated the ribbon cutting for their new 0.5-million-gallon water tank in Carolinas Heights last Feb. 28.
The new tank, along with its predecessor, now serves about 70 percent of the island’s residents and businesses.
Of the $1.6 million needed to complete the project, $700,000 was directed to the water tank pursuant to Tinian Legislative Delegation Resolution 19-4.
“In the face of our casino investments and the divert airfield, the Tinian Legislative Delegation recognizes the importance of ensuring that Tinian is equipped with the proper infrastructure,” said Sen. Jude U. Hofschneider. “The completion of the [water tank] is key to ensuring that all of Tinian has reliable and consistent access to clean water, even as our community grows.”
But the work does not stop there. “For our efforts to come full circle we must push for more improvement to our water distribution systems. The distribution lines from the water tanks are in need of replacement. The West San Jose Homestead is also in need of their own water distribution lines,” Hofschneider added. “The [Tinian] delegation looks forward to working with the Capital Improvement Program] Office, [Commonwealth Utilities Corp.] and other major stakeholders to fund these projects and see their completion.”
The 20th Tinian Legislative Delegation is upping the ante in preparing the Tinian community for forthcoming developments.
In addition to the recently completed renovation work at the Tinian International Airport, the Tinian delegation is actively pushing for much-needed improvements across Tinian, including additional highway repairs under the upcoming Federal Highway State Plan; the renovation and expansion of the Tinian Health Center, which is to be funded by Tinian’s Commonwealth Development Authority bond interest funds pursuant to Tinian Local Law 20-33; and the paving of Marpo Heights II roads, which received $722,331 from Public Law 20-42.
