BREAKING NEWS: Tourist drowns at Laolao Bay

The Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services identified tonight, Friday, the drowning victim at Laolao Bay as a 32-year-old Chinese male tourist.

 

DFEMS spokesman Derek Gersonde said a physician at the Commonwealth Health Center pronounced the victim, Tian Tao, dead at 2:24pm.

 

Gersonde said investigation showed that Tao and his wife had rented a vehicle and gone to Laolao Bay without a guide this afternoon.

 

Tao went swimming while his wife stayed ashore.

 

The wife later shouted for help after noticing that her husband had gone underwater for several minutes near the reef.

 

A group of Japanese male bystanders swam to the rescue and pulled out the victim to shore.

 

DFEMS ambulance responded after receiving the 911 call at 1:55pm.

 

Gersonde said DFEMS emergency medical technicians tried to revive Tao and performed CPR on him in the ambulance until they reached at CHC at 2:18pm.
