On the CNMI horizon
Illegal hiring of construction workers is at its worst. CNMI and federal labor enforcement partnership is critically needed to monitor construction projects and site to ensure that all workers have legal work permits.
As we have seen and continue to see, some CW employees resign from one employer and work for another employer or company without an approved work permit. For example, eight construction workers ran away to another construction company and are illegally working there with a higher salary.
Illegal business practices are rampant in the Chinese business community. From illegal hiring, drugs, pesticides, concealment of expensive commodities to avoid paying taxes, illegal gambling, human trafficking, prostitution, and the list goes on. It’s all with federal and local government records.
Na para napara (enough is enough), taya respeto (no respect), especially foreign businesses that create their mess and leave the island.
The CNMI needs legitimate investors that adhere to the rule of law that will bring a win-win to the CNMI and their business.
The antidote requires CNMI and federal enforcement partnership, strict penalties, and a repeat offense ban from doing business in the CNMI.
