Falcons, GSM ease past opponents
The Falcons and GSM kept their records clean as they coasted past their respective foes in the 2018 Saipan Baseball League last week at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.
The Falcons improved to a 3-0 mark following a 32-4 thrashing of the Outlaws last Thursday night, while GSM got the same record for a share of first place after defeating the Blue Jays last Friday, 17-5.
GSM found its target in the fourth inning to establish a safe distance against Outlaws. GSM scored seven runs in the pivotal top of the fourth, turning a shaky 3-2 lead to a 10-2 advantage. GSM then added three runs in the fifth and four in the seventh for the early win via 10-run mercy rule.
Pat Alepuyo went 3-for-5 for GSM and scored two RBIs. Pete Tomokane and Bryon Kaipat also had two RBI each off a 2-for-3 and 2-for-4 performance at the plate, respectively. Franko Nakamura was only 1-for-4, but collected four runs, while Diego Camacho and Jerome Delos Santos chipped in two runs each.
The Blue Jays lost the game after hanging tough in the opening inning as they were held scores in last next four.
Meanwhile, in the Falcons-Outlaw one-sided game, the former delivered 13 runs at the top of the second inning to finish off the latter after only five innings. The Falcons got eight earned runs in the pivotal fourth inning, including a two-run single from Peter Lieto.
The Falcons then slowed down in the third inning as they made only one run, but finished strong, combining for 17 more runs in the last two to complete their domination of the hapless Outlaws.
Peter Lieto finished with five RBIs and was 3-for-5 at the plate, while Ian Norita, J.J. Lifoifoi, and Frankie Lieto contributed three RBIs each. Lifoifoi hit 4-for-5 and scored two runs, while Norita went only 2-for-4, but tallied four runs. Frankie Lieto also had four runs on a 3-for-4 at bat.
The Outlaws made all its runs in the third inning and has yet to enter the win column this season, absorbing its third defeat.
