March is gearing up to be a very busy month for teams participating in the Marianas March Against Cancer as teams have events lined up for the community to participate in the fight against cancer.

“Our teams have been very proactive this year, initiating fundraisers and garnering a lot of support from our community. March is shaping up to be an active month with events happening within the first week alone,” said MMAC 2018 Committee chair Bobby Cruz.

On Thursday, March 1, Team Bodig held a coin drive at the Atkins Kroll Toyota Intersection from 4pm to 6pm. They will be holding their next coin drive on Thursday, March 15, at the same time, same location.

On Friday, March 2, the Commonwealth Cancer Association had a roadside waving and a free health walk from Garapan Fishing Base to Quartermaster Road as part of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.

Also that day at 6pm, Team Faiyé held a happy hour fundraiser at the Carolinian Utt in Garapan until 10pm. Entry is $20 and came with two free drinks, free chaser, and live entertainment.

On Saturday, March 3, Team IPI Dolphins (the combined team of Imperial Pacific International LLC and Marianas High School) held their Sunset Happy Hour fundraiser from 6pm to 10pm at the Saipan Seaside BBQ and Grill next to the former Cabrera Center on Beach Road.

On Friday, March 16, Team PSS/SPC (Public School System Central and Saipan Paddling Club) will be holding a coin drive at the Atkins Kroll Toyota intersection from 4pm to 6pm.

On Saturday, March 24, Team IT&E/SSHS (IT&E and Saipan Southern High School) will be holding its first annual Race for Life. The event features an exciting island scavenger hunt. More details to be provided soon.

As March aims to be a busy month for MMAC, April is beginning to look like one too as several teams have events lined up as well.

On April 13, Team NMC/LDTF (Northern Marianas College and the Lady Diann Torres Foundation) will have a fundraising booth at the always exciting NMC Charter Day from 4pm to 10pm.

Also that day, Team Talaabwogh Stars will be holding a happy hour fundraiser at Joe’s Bar. More details to be provided soon.

In mid-April, Team IPI Dolphins will be holding its second annual “Hits for Hope” Softball Tournament. More details will be provided later.

Team NMC/LDTF will also be holding its second annual Brunch for a Cure on Sunday, April 29, at Giovanni’s at the Hyatt Regency Saipan.  More details to come.

There are also several teams with special ongoing fundraising efforts.

Team Triple J Lancherus (Triple J and Chacha Oceanview Middle School) will be donating $1 for every iced tea or drink special sold at the Triple J family of restaurants: Tony Roma’s, Capriciossa, Truong’s, Surf Club, and Bubba Gump. They will also be donating $25 for every vehicle sold in the Triple J dealership.

Team NMIFA (Northern Mariana Islands Football Association), in collaboration with Shirley’s Coffee Shop, will be donating 10 cents for every iced tea sold in the restaurant’s Susupe and Garapan locations.

“We are really moving this year, and our teams are working very hard not just for the team competition, but because this event means so much to so many people. It is a collective effort to supporting our loved ones and fighting cancer in our islands. It is also never too late to sign up or join a team,” said MMAC 2018 Committee vice chair Carline Sablan.
