March is the month to honor women
The progress made by women in the CNMI will be commemorated throughout March, an occasion marked by the designation of the month as Women’s Month in a proclamation signing last Tuesday.
The CNMI Women’s Association hosted the 10th annual proclamation signing that dedicates March to empowering women.
According to CWA president Rose Hocog, the CNMI has seen significant progress in how the community has embraced women as leaders and how the community has empowered women.
“We see women holding leadership roles in both the public and private sector. For this I would like to thank our former leaders and Gov. Torres and Lt. Gov. Hocog for believing in the ability of women and for placing them in some key positions on your Cabinet,” she said.
Gov. Ralph DLG Torres said that a month is not enough time to honor all the women who have taken up leadership roles in the community, in households, or at work.
CWA has prepared an entire calendar of events to commemorate the occasion.
All throughout the month, the community is encouraged to check out local women artists and their masterpieces at the weekly street market at the Garapan Fishing Base starting at 5pm.
On March 2, March 6, March 13, and March 19, the CWA will host financial literacy presentations in schools, from 1pm to 2pm.
On March 3, the community is invited to participate in the national March for H.E.R.S from 2:30pm to 5:30pm that will start at the American Memorial Park.
On March 7, CWA will host a Story Telling Cultural Practice from 9am to 11am at the Carolinian Affairs Office grounds.
On March 8, March 15, and March 22, women will be featured on the KKMP radio station starting at 7:30am to share parenting tips.
An oral health presentation will be held at the Garapan center next to the Carolinian Affairs Office on March 9 starting at 1:30pm.
There will be a coconut oil making class at the Carolinian Affairs Office on March 14, from 8:30am to 11:30am.
The CWA will host a Tupperaiser on March 17 from 9am to 1:30pm at the Carolinian Affairs Office to raise funds for the upcoming women’s summit.
On March 24, the CWA will host a mother/daughter night at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center, from 5:30pm to 9:30pm.
The highlight of women’s month will be the annual Women’s Summit that will be held on March 26 and 27, from 7:30am to 4:30pm, at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center.
