Mariana Islands Basketball Federation development officer Elias Rangamar will be making a tough decision as he has to trim down the 30 players that tried out for slots on the Micronesian-Games bound CNMI men’s national team.

Rangamar will be going through the notes and assessment he made for each player and would cut the number to half and then select the final 12 players who will represent the CNMI to the Micro Games that will be held in Yap from July 15 to 27.

“It will be a tough decision for me to make since there are a lot of good players. I’ve seen a lot of potential players that could help the CNMI in the Micro Games,” Rangamar told Saipan Tribune after Saturday’s final tryout at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

“But, I have to make the selection. Not making the cut does not mean you’re not a good player. I plan to meet them one at a time and explain why they are chosen or why they did not make the cut,” Rangamar said.

He added that he would point out to each player their strengths and weaknesses during his one-on-one session with the team hopefuls.

“There are a lot of players who are good shooters, can read the defense, and handle the ball. I’ve mentioned before that I’m not looking for one-dimensional players. I want all-around players,” said Rangamar.

He will announce the rosters of the men’s and women’s teams before the end of the month since they must begin their training for the Micro Games next month.
