The Marianas Visitors Authority has launched a new approach to reach free independent travelers, also called FITs, from China, leveraging the power of influential bloggers.
FITs comprise a growing number of visitors to the Marianas, choosing to make their own travel arrangements versus booking a tour package.
So far, posts from the tour held on Dec. 29, 2017, to Jan. 5, 2018, have received over 10,000 retweets, comments and likes on Sina Weibo, China’s equivalent of Facebook.
The bloggers on the tour were Song Jun, Dong Lei, Vivi Lan, and Shang Li with over 2.4 million followers combined on Sina Weibo.
“In our work to target FITs directly, the MVA will be hosting further blogger FA[familiarization] trips from March to May to explore more of our beautiful Marianas, including Tinian and Rota,” said MVA marketing manager Broc Calvo.
During the five-day New Year in the Marianas trip, the bloggers joined a fireworks party at Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan, explored various means of transportation for FIT tourists to explore Saipan, and visited scenery spots including the Grotto, Managaha, Bird Island Lookout, Micro Beach, Kalabera Cave, Forbidden Island, and Mt. Tapochao. Sampled activities included banana boat, snorkeling, skydive, jetovator, UTV, and SeaTouch marine animal encounter.
In addition, the bloggers also visited MVA member shops for catering and entertainment, such as Avis Rent a Car, Country House Restaurant, IHop, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., I Love Saipan, T Galleria by DFS, and more.
In-depth travel notes will also be posted by the bloggers with online travel agents like mafengwo.cn. (MVA)
