Suplex City and Bruv prevailed in the co-ed U18 division matches in Soccer School’s 2018 Youth Futsal Tournament last Sunday night at the TSL Sports Complex.
The Kensington Hotel-backed Suplex City eased past La Fabrica, 8-3, to improve to a 2-0-0 win-draw-loss record—the same mark that Bruv has following a 6-2 triumph over CTSI Petmalu.
Bruv and CTSI Petmalu closed out the games in the futsal tournament last weekend with the former gaining momentum in the first half to remain undefeated in the six-team field and hand CTSI Petmalu its first loss in the competition.
The Ryan Relucio-coached Bruv jumped to a 4-1 halftime lead, thanks to Guine Borja’s pair of goals and one each from J.M. Rojas and Mareko Tekopua. CTSI Petmalu’s lone goal in the opening 20 minutes of play came from Joshua De Leon.
CTSI Petmalu (1-1-1) then continued to struggle on offense in the second half with only Sharmaine Francisco hitting the board for the losing squad, while Tekopua added two to complete a hat trick.
In the La Fabrica-Suplex City tiff, the latter caught fire in the second half to beat the former.
Suplex City drilled five goals in the second half turning a closely fought first frame, 3-2, to a 5-point victory. Sebastien Manabat, Rintaro Miyawaki, Jerlyn Castillo, and Katrina Costales lit up the board for Suplex City in the final 20 minutes of the match and the team also got a goal off La Fabrica’s error. Manabat and Miyawaki also had one goal each in the first half and Alex Park added one more for Suplex City’s 3-2 halftime advantage.
La Fabrica kept Suplex City within striking distance after the first half, as Jeffrey Seo and Ian Maniago found their target in that period. However, La Fabrica failed to keep up with Suplex City in the second half with only Maniago converting a shot in the closing stage of the match.
In other results, ABCD FC broke into the win column after topping Islanders FC in the curtain-raiser in the division, 7-2.
Dai Podziewski towed ABCD FC (1-1-1) to victory after making three goals. Krizel Tuazon contributed two, while Clayton Izuka and Kirt Andon tallied one each. Podziewski knocked in a pair in first half, while Aldon also registered his goal in that period for ABCD FC’s 3-0 lead. The Islanders (0-0-3), after going scoreless in the first half, drew one goal each from Taka Borja and John Canape, but ABCD FC countered with four to notch its first victory.
Meanwhile, the elimination round games will resume today with one match in each division. In the co-ed U18, Bruv and Suplex City will fight for the solo lead at 7:30pm, while in the co-ed U12 tiff at 6:30pm, it will be CTSI Petmalu against Betde. In the coe-d U15 match at 6:30pm, Fake Madrid takes on Marianas United.
