Scheduled power interruption on Feb. 3

There will be a scheduled power interruption on Saturday, Feb. 3, from 1:30pm to 4pm to allow the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. line crew to perform vegetation clearing on the high voltage primary lines along Railroad Drive in San Vicente.

Areas to be affected: Kiya 1 (1st Partial)” San Vicente (Railroad Drive, Sinagu Lane and Tininu P1).

No water wells or wastewater lift stations will be affected.

Aircraft carrier to make Guam visit

SANTA RITA, Guam—Aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson is scheduled to make a visit to U.S. Naval Base Guam tomorrow, Jan. 31, marking the ship’s first port call during a Western Pacific deployment in 2018.

Led by commanding officer Capt. Douglas Verissimo, Vinson is the flagship for Carrier Strike Group 1. The strike group previously visited Guam while operating in the region last February.

On Jan. 5, the carrier departed San Diego with an air wing complement of more than 70 aircraft.

Commissioned in 1982, Vinson is America’s third Nimitz-class aircraft carrier. (PR)

Chamber training on use of social media

The Saipan Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a training seminar called “Social Media for Business!” on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, from 9am to 11:30am at the Chamber’s conference room (Marianas Business Plaza, third floor, Suite 315).

This seminar will focus on the effective use of social media to find new customers, engage existing customers, and enhance the overall effectiveness and success of your business.  Both retail and service industries can greatly benefit from the free advertising available online.

Road closure on Beach Road

There will be construction and road closures on the northbound lane of Beach Road in between Llat Street and Alas Street in Garapan until March 25, 2018. The road is expected to re-open on March 25, 2018. This will allow the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s contractor, RNV Construction, to perform renovations on a sewer lift station, S-10. Due to the closure of the northbound lane and for the safety of the community, motorists and large vehicles are advised to proceed with caution and take alternative routes when traveling through the area.
