TRAC moves event, gives way to walkathon tomorrow

The Triathlon Association of the CNMI pushed back its 3rd Aquathlon and 10K Run from Saturday to Sunday to give way to another event organized by the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa’s Health Ministry.
The pre-Tagaman event was originally set for tomorrow at 6am at the Kilili Beach Park, but the schedule would clash with the diocese’s 5-kilometer Walkathon.
The walkathon will start from the parking lot of Kristo Rai Parish to Quartermaster Road and back. Registration opens at 6am, while participants begin their walk at 7am. A limited number of event t-shirts will be given away for free on a first come, first serve basis.
TRAC president Ricky Castro said they decided to move their race to Sunday to avoid any possible mishap along the Beach Road Pathway since the course for their event will start at Kilili Beach Park.
Participants in the aquathlon will take a 2.5K run from Kilili Beach to Monika’s Furniture near Quartermaster Road and back. They will then do a 1K swim and finish the race with another 2.5K run on the same route. The 10K run, on the other hand, will be from Kilili Beach to Bank of Guam and back.
Castro said they expect a huge number of people along the Beach Road Pathway because of the two events so moving their race to Sunday is much convenient and safer.
“We want to avoid any untoward incident since a lot of people would be walking along the pathway from Kristo Rai, while participants in our race would also use it going to Bank of Guam in Garapan,” said Castro.
The Commonwealth Cancer Association is supporting the aquathlon race in coordination with the Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. Kanoa Resort, IT&E, Gatorade, and JET Holdings are the sponsors of TRAC’s first event this year.
The registration fees are $10 for individuals and $20 for teams in the aquathlon. The 10K run is for individual runners only and entry fee is $10. Medals and other prizes await the top finishers of the race, which is the second of a series of warm-up races organized by TRAC leading up to the 2018 Tagaman set later this year.
