Dolphin swimmers share spotlight with SSC, Tsunami Saipan

Dolphin Club Saipan members did not set CNMI marks, but received the same loud cheers given to those who made record-breaking swims.
For the first time in so many years, more than 20 adult swimmers shared the spotlight with the islands’ young swimmers as they competed in last Saturday’s Tsunami Saipan Mid Season Meet at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool.
The Emma Perez-led Dolphin Club Saipan fielded 25 swimmers in the weekend meet with the group’s members racing in the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 50m butterfly, 200m medley relay, and 200m freestyle relay events.
Perez led club members on the other end of the 50-meter pool, cheering for every DCS swimmers trying their best to complete their respective events. In one of the races—200m IM—a DCS member stopped once he was done with the breaststroke part of the event, but after being encouraged by Perez and company, he soldiered on and completed his race. At the end of their races, DCS swimmers were applauded by their teammates and Tsunami Swimming Center Saipan and Saipan Swim Club members and officials.
Yulia Aleksenko, mother of Tsunami Saipan’s Isaiah, Joey Tudela, Ivan Ilmova, Mark Isip, Buboy Aguilar, Florence Antonio, and Ricky Castro were the first batch of DCS swimmers who saw action in the meet, competing in the 200m freestyle event. Other members of the club that participated in last Saturday’s races were Maureen Sebangiol, Suzy Kindel, Emma and Pete Perez, Chang Whan Jang, Tatina Ilmova, Sally and Hezzel Yntema, Anastasiia Shamanaeva, Paul Plunkett, and Sony Holandez.
Meanwhile, the complete results of the 15 events in last weekend’s competition will be reported on Saipan Tribune later this week.
