Tinian man allegedly stole CUC copper wire
Police arrested a man on Tinian over the weekend for allegedly stealing hundreds of feet of copper wire from the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.
Mario Borja Adriano, 32, was arrested on charges of theft, criminal mischief, and criminal trespass. His bail was set yesterday at $20,000 cash; preliminary hearing is on Jan. 25 at 1:30pm.
Police said a Tinian CUC employee had called police last Dec. 13 to report that someone had stolen CUC’s drop line at a home in Marpo Heights. The CUC employee said that he and his partner noticed the missing service drop line leading to a house during a routine check on weather heads.
The same CUC employee called the police again last Dec. 18 to report that 100 feet of CUC wire had been stolen from a telephone pole leading to an abandoned house.
The CUC staff then contacted the police last Dec. 26 to report that 120 feet of CUC wire that was being used as a drop line to an abandoned house had also been stolen.
The following day, Dec. 27, the CUC employee reported to police that a routine check on another abandoned house again showed that about 320 feet of CUC wire had been stolen.
In an interview with an employee of a recycling center last Jan. 8, police learned that Adriano had sold copper wire to the center last Dec. 18 and 19.
Police seized the stolen wire weighing 33 kilos that were valued at over $1,000.
