Top and bottom met with the leading Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan whipping cellar dweller Lower Base, 69-51, in the nightcap in the 2017 Tan Holdings Inter-Company Basketball League last Friday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.
With the convincing victory, Fiesta Resort stretched its winning streak to six, while Lower Base is still winless after six matches to remain at the bottom of the team standings.
Fiesta played without gunner Lerio Pagarao, but had no problems in getting their offense going as Paul Quizon and Troy Ngirarois were there to give the squad the needed baskets, while their teammates also contributed to the cause.
Quizon had a team-high 15 markers, while Ngiraois added 10. Eight straight markers from Quizon midway in the first half helped Fiesta build a good lead at the break, 36-24. Quizon started his string of points with a 2-pointer and followed it up with back-to-back shots from downtown.
Fiesta’s eventual top-scorer was then held to two field goal in the second half, but that did not prevent the tournament’s leader to lose control of the game, as Ngirarois finished what Quizon started and drew lots of support from his teammates. Ngirarois poured all his 10 markers in the second half, while four of his teammates chipped in at least two field goals apiece to complete their domination of the hapless Lower Base.
Ricky Riungel had 20 markers in another losing effort for Lower Base, while Ed Echavez and Ariel Jinang also logged double figures with 11 and 10, respectively, but their baskets came with Fiesta in full command in the second half.
