Saipan is KONQER’s first stop

KONQER Sports will kicking off its series of premier obstacle course races on Saipan in April.

The Saipan leg is set for April 28 and will be followed by the second leg in Guam on June 16. The third and last stop will be a two-day race in Palau on Oct. 5 and 6.

KONQER held its first event on Saipan dubbed as “The King of the Hill” last September and it took place at the Gov. Eloy S. Inos Peace Park in Puerto Rico. Close to 500 individuals joined the race, either completing the obstacle course solo or as a group. KONQER Saipan was eventful, as intermittent rain made the course more challenging, forcing participants to race around the muddy and wet 90-foot park. Despite the tough race condition, U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Timothy Patrick braved the shifting tide off the waters of Garapan to the sea wall of the Peace Park, completing the race in 37:08. Over a minute behind him was USMC Gunnery Sgt. Justin Park, who clocked in at 38:36, while Saipan bet Joel Phair came in at third with a time of 38:53.

Marianas Outrigger Club (50:10), Gold’s Gym (1:01:22), and Tao Tao Bud 670 (1:02:56) were the Top 3 finishers in the Business League Team event.

Meanwhile, KONQER Sports will also be giving away 500 free individual entries to any of the three legs this year. To get a chance to win free entries, interested individuals must fill out an online form at konqersports.com. Deadline for submission of entries is on Jan. 31 with the random drawing and announcement of free entries scheduled for Feb. 28.

KONQER chief experience officer Kaz Endo said they would randomly pick 500 free entries into their choice of leg, with one lucky individual winning a free slot to the entire three-stage series.

“It’s our fourth year overall in Guam, and our second year in the CNMI and Palau. What better way to spread our mission of promoting wellness through play by making our events accessible to as many people as possible?” said Endo.

Children who are under 14 years old can still participate free of charge, while Business League teams are not eligible for the raffle draw.

Endo said individuals who joined the draw and failed to win could still avail of a special half price race entry fee by entering a special promo code. “So, it’s really a win-win.”
