New drug rehab center caters to 35 minors
A new program that provides counselling and support services for minors facing substance abuse issues has already enrolled 35 individuals.
The Systems of Care is a newly established program under the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.’s Community Guidance Center.
During last Tuesday’s Rotary Club of Saipan weekly meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan’s Giovanni’s Restaurant, Systems of Care lead licensed therapist Kimberly Mendiola enlightened Rotary Club members about the basics of the program.
According to Mendiola, the program officially launched on January 2017 and has already enrolled 35 individuals.
She said the program will respond to the needs of the community, meaning there is no limit to how many individuals the clinic can enroll. “We assist as many families as we can,” said Mendiola.
The program offers one-on-one counseling with each individual, teaches coping mechanisms for possible triggers, assistance in the establishment of goals for those enrolled in the program, and activities for the youth to engage in to build healthier relationships.
The program caters to individuals as young as 5 and as old as 21. The program accepts referrals from anyone but so far, the clinic has been receiving most of their referrals from partner agencies like the Division of Youth Services.
The clinic is currently located at the Oleai Alexander Royale building but will soon transfer to a clinic in San Antonio.
