A restaurant owner was seriously injured after being attacked in his place of business in San Roque last Tuesday night.

According to the Department of Safety public information officer Jackie Rae, last Jan. 9 at approximately 12:30am, DPS dispatch received a phone call from a male in Roque’s Ravern in San Roque.

The caller said he was bleeding and in need of assistance. Upon arrival, police officers found a 53-year old Caucasian male, who was later identified as the Tavern’s owner and chef Juan Carlos Berrocal, lying on the floor with bloodstains on his head.

Officers contacted Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services who transported the victim to the Commonwealth Health Center.

While at the scene, DPS detectives noticed broken glass on the floor by the entrance and a 4×4 piece of lumber with bloodstains.

There were other signs of struggle at the scene including a displaced cash register that was open and missing cash.

Detectives at CHC questioned Berrocal who affirmed that he is the owner of Roque’s Tavern, but cannot recall what happened and if there was any cash in the register.

Berrocal told the detectives that the last thing last memory he had that night was three men coming into the restaurant before blacking out. He was admitted to CHC for further examination.

The case is currently under investigation.
