Career and Technical Education Program open house this Saturday
The CNMI Public School System will have an open house for its Career and Technical Education Program this Saturday, Jan. 13.
The public is invited to view materials and provide feedback/comments for the Career and Technical Education Program instructional materials for review by PSS.
The open house will be held from 10am to 3pm on three locations Tanapag Middle School Room F-3 (Saipan), Dr. Rita H. Inos Junior Senior High School Library (Rota), and Tinian Junior Senior High School Library (Tinian).

Torres signs HB 20-09 into law
On Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres signed into law House Bill 20-09, which requires all scuba dive shop operators to impose a $10 surcharge per tank usage to purchase, install, operate, and maintain decompression chambers in the CNMI. Authored by Rep. Joseph Leepan T. Guerrero, this bill becomes Public Law 20-36. (PR)
USS America visits Guam
ASAN, Guam—Sailors and Marines from the amphibious assault ship USS America and 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit will volunteer at the following events during a port call to Guam this week.
– Oceanview Middle School: Volunteers will give class presentations about their careers and participate in Chamorro class lessons with students, among other activities, on Jan. 8, from 12:30pm to 4pm.
– Catholic Social Service Adult Day Care: Volunteers will visit the center to interact with and participate in light exercises and arts and craft activities with elderly clients on Jan. 9, from 12:30pm to 4pm.
– Piti: Volunteers will be asked to assist the village mayor’s staff with a coastal cleanup and interact with the village’s senior citizens on Jan. 11, from 12:30pm to 4pm.
America is the flagship of the America Amphibious Readiness Group, and with the embarked 15th MEU and Amphibious Squadron 3, is currently conducting maritime security operations and supporting theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. (PR)
Military training at Warning Area 517, FDM
ASAN, Guam—The U.S. military will conduct training at Warning Area 517 during the following dates and times:
– Jan. 10, from 8:30amto 6pm
– Jan. 11, from 10:30amto 3:30pm
The military will also conduct training at the island of Farallon de Medinilla during the following dates and times:
– Jan. 10, from 8:30amto 6pm
– Jan. 11, from 10:30amto 3:30pm
– Jan. 12, from 11amto 3pm
It is recommended the public, fishermen and marine tour operators to monitor the U.S. Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories. W-517 is activated south of latitude 12° 40’ 00″N. Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Banks are open for public use.
The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be in a 12-nautical mile radius of the island. (PR)
