COLONIA, Yap—The blowing of the conch shell and the ceremonial transport of a wheel of stone money by a group of the island’s locally-attired men will kick off the 50th anniversary of Yap Day that will be celebrated from Feb. 28 to March 1 at the Makiy site in Gagil Municipality.

On March 2, the Yap Day celebration will relocate to the Yap Living History Museum in Colonia for more indigenous activities.

The by-Yapese-for-Yapese event will be a three-day celebration featuring special guests, local food and customs, arts and handicrafts, skill demonstrations, traditional dances, canoe rides, games and prizes and much more. The final schedule of events will be announced at a later date.
