HICKAM, Hawaii—The U.S. Air Force is seeking public input regarding the preparation of an Interpretive Plan for the World War II historic features of West Field, located on Tinian, north of the Tinian airport.

The Interpretive Plan is one of the commitments in a Programmatic Agreement between the U.S. Air Force, the CNMI’s Historic Preservation Office, and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation to resolve adverse effects to historic properties that may result from the plan to create a divert airfield on Tinian.

A goal of the Interpretive Plan is the development of interpretive materials to tell the story of West Field and the units stationed there to include the 58th Bombardment Wing, 6th Naval Construction Brigade, 49th Naval Construction Regiment, and 29th Naval Construction Regiment. The purpose is to provide the U.S. Air Force with a strategy to document and interpret extant historic features of West Field for the public.

The plan will discuss content and options for future interpretive products. Possible products include, but are not limited to: signage at publicly accessible historic features, printed brochures, airport exhibits and/or displays and electronic products. These products will be produced in English, Chamorro, and other languages as determined to be appropriate during the development.

The U.S. Air Force requests public input on the format and content of interpretive products. The U.S. Air Force will consider the comments received during the preparation of the plan. Those who wish to provide input are encouraged to submit their comments to:
