Koblerville, Mt. Carmel lead ISL semifinalists

Koblerville Elementary School and Mt. Carmel School topped the list of Final Four qualifiers in the 2017 NMIFA Fall U11 Interscholastic Soccer League.

Koblerville clinched a semis berth in the girls division of the competition after placing No. 1 in the team standings at the end of the elimination. The Umangs finished the round-robin contest with a 3-1-0 win-draw-loss record—the same mark that William S. Reyes Elementary School earned. Koblerville, however, won the tiebreak because it scored more goals in four games, 11-5.

The first semifinalists got three goals in their final elimination match last Thursday against Mt. Carmel at the Hopwood Middle School Field. Megan Elayda, Aleeza Castro, and Tanaya Willy scored the three goals in Koblerville shutout win over the Lady Knights.

WSR also had its final game before the playoffs last Thursday and won via forfeiture against Kagman Elementary School.

Besides WSR and Koblerville, Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School and Mt. Carmel also advanced to the semifinal round, which will be played today at the Hopwood pitch. GTC marched into the Final Four after getting a 2-0-2 record and it will duel WSR for one of the two finals berth in the division. Mt. Carmel was the last semis qualifier after posting a 1-0-3 card and will have a tougher assignment as it faces Koblerville in the other Final Four pairing.

In the boys division, Mt. Carmel emerged as the No. 1 seed for finishing the elimination with a 4-1-0 mark.

The Knights capped their unbeaten record with a 4-1 triumph over Koblerville last Thursday at the Hopwood pitch. Markus Toves was again at the forefront of Mt. Carmel’s offense after making a hat trick against the Umangs. He scored his goals in succession with the first one coming in the eighth minute and the last two in the 18th and 24th.

Monico Claridades nailed the lone goal for Koblerville, which missed the playoffs as it ranked fifth after the elimination round with its 1-0-4 record.

GTC, WSR, and Garapan completed the semis cast in the boys division. GTC had a 4-0-1 mark after the elimination, winning its last match versus Garapan, 2-1, while WSR clobbered the eliminated Kagman in the other game last Thursday, 9-0. GTC and WSR will dispute the finals ticket today, while the same prize is at stake in the Mt. Carmel-Garapan tiff.
