Christmas special showcases dance student performances

The Glushko’s Dance Academy hosted its annual Christmas concert last night with 50 of Anna Glushko’s students rocking the stage of the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center.

According to Glushko, the school’s founder, her students have been preparing tirelessly since August to perfect their performances.

“We practiced hard…and we put a lot of effort into having a nice performance …we started in August to prepare for [the] December [concert],” she said.

Students as young as 3 and as old as 18 took to the stage to dance to popular Christmas carols.

According to one of the featured performers of the night, Annabel Sablan, she has been a part of the Glushko Academy since she was 3 years old and has performed multiple times in many of the concerts the academy has hosted. Sablan will soon leave the academy as she nears high school graduation.

According to Sablan, she initially felt nervous about her performance last night but she soon relaxed to enjoy it. “I was very nervous but I still had fun and I liked the rush, so I continue to do it even though it is really hard.”

One of the challenges Sablan faced in preparing for the Christmas concert was the pressure leading up to the day. “My instructor was very strict with me…and she wanted me to perform at my best so it was a lot of pressure” she said.

Although preparations can get intense sometimes, Sablan still encourages other young individuals, boy or girl, to join the academy because at the end, it is fulfilling.

“It’s actually a lot of fun and if you love it, then it’s not that hard and it’s not hard work,” she said.
