Hell of the Marianas gets int’l coverage

The 2017 Hell of The Marianas attracted 181 registrants from 11 countries, along with media from four outlets, bringing an estimated $10 million in advertising exposure to the islands.
Of the 161 who started the race, Mark John Galedo of the Philippines bettered his 2016 finish, crossing the finish line in 3:15:51, followed closely by countrymen Ronald Lomotos in 3:15:55 and Janpaul Morales in 3:21:32.
In the Pro/Elite Women Division, Yasue Nakahara of Japan led with 4:01:51, followed by Chau Yu Ng of Hong Kong (4:32:50).
Kristina Ingversson of Guam was the second female and the first in the Non-Pro Women Division to cross the finish line (4:15:12).
Participating countries were South Korea, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Guam, Philippines, Italy, Russia, France, United Kingdom, and the Marianas. The Marianas fielded 83 competitors, while the second largest contingent of 17 hailed from South Korea.
“We’re very pleased with the outcome of the 2018 Hell of the Marianas, especially in terms of attracting a field from a wide variety of countries,” said MVA managing director Christopher A. Concepcion. “It was a well-executed race, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with Northern Marianas Cycling Federation to continue to grow the event.”
Several media outlets will feature the race in upcoming publications. Leon, Ordinary, and Velo Page of South Korea have a combined readership of 170,000 and will feature the race, Tinian, and other attractions in the Marianas in their January or February issues. RUNRiDE.JP online magazine targets male bikers in their 20s to 50s, has 250,000 page views per month, and will feature the race on Jan. 8, 2018.
The 100K road race is an annual signature event of the Marianas Visitors Authority and features picturesque views from Saipan’s northern to southern tip. (MVA)
