The Northern Marianas College’s recent partnership with the University of Alaska Fairbanks gives students the option to stay on island while earning an associate degree in liberal arts with an emphasis in social work.

Graduates of this 61-credit program will be able to earn 37 general education credits and 12 social work credits from NMC, all of which are directly transferable to the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ social work program.

“The partnership with the University of Alaska Fairbanks opens up opportunities to our students who won’t be able to leave the island,” said NMC president Dr. Carmen Fernandez. “We will continue to forge our new partnership with other institutions to expand more options for other academic and training areas.”

Students wishing to enroll into the four-year BSW program at Alaska Fairbanks will also have the opportunity to complete their four-year-degree program online and through telecourse instructions. All tuition rates for enrollment into the BSW program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks will be at the resident of Alaska rates—waiving all out-state tuition rates.

Any interested candidates should contact Thomas D. Sharts, chairperson of the Social Sciences and Fine Arts at 237-6761 or at thomas.sharts@marianas.edu or Liberal Arts coordinator Velma Deleon Guerrero at 237-6740 or at velma.deleon.guerrero@marianas.edu. (NMC)
