Saipan to join global candle lighting

Share

On Sunday, Dec. 10, the Compassionate Friends of Saipan will participate in an annual worldwide event designed to honor the memories of all children, grandchildren and siblings who have died.

The Saipan chapter is joining with hundreds of organized memorial services around the world for the 21st annual Worldwide Candle Lighting, an event now believed to be the largest mass candle lighting in the world.

The local candle lighting will be part of a special event beginning 6:45pm at Minachom Atdao Pavilion in Susupe and will feature music, candle lighting and saying of loved one’s names.

Candles are first lit at 7pm, local time, just west of the international date line. As candles burn down in one-time zone, they are lighted in the next, creating a 24-hour wave of light as the observance continues around the world.

To contact the Compassionate Friends of Saipan, call Donna Krum (783-1900) or Maggie George (483-6825) or visit the chapter’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/TCFSaipan/.
