He’s note sought help to bring car back to Garapan

The note that 22-year-old Jilian He allegedly wrote in Chinese before getting on a rented car and driving off Banzai Cliff in Marpi last Saturday morning reportedly contained a plea for help from any Chinese to drive back and return the vehicle to Garapan.

Saipan Tribune also learned yesterday from QQ Car Rental that He rented the Toyota Yaris sedan on Saturday at 1am. He presented a blurred Chinese driver’s license in renting the car.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services described He as a “local Chinese female.” Police responded on Saturday at 9:31am to Banzai Cliff after receiving a 911 call about a woman driving a car off the cliff and into the water.

Witnesses and police said that before He drove the car off the cliff, she was seen sitting along the edge of the cliff, getting into the car, throwing a bag and other items outside the car, including the note, and accelerating off the cliff.

Saipan Tribune learned from a source that the note, written in Chinese, states that “If you are Chinese, please help me, will you?”

The note instructs any Chinese to open the car’s door as she did not lock it. If she happened to lock the door, then she must have placed the key somewhere near the car.

He also described the wind as too strong and that she was afraid of losing the key.

“Please help me to drive back to Garapan to return it. Thank you,” the note stated in Chinese.

Above the Chinese message, a note written in English stated that she had left the car unlocked and that the key was in the vehicle. The note ended, “Thank you so much.”

Rescuers recovered He’s body from the submerged car, which was found about 300 feet off the cliff, 74 feet below sea level, on Saturday at 3:24pm, DFEMS said.
