The 2017 Fall U11 Interscholastic Soccer League will open tomorrow at the various school fields with 11 teams participating in this year’s competition for elementary division.
Six teams, led by defending champion Mt. Carmel School, will fight for the boys championship. The Knights took last season’s title after outclassing Brilliant Star School/Whispering Palms School in a shootout, 2-0. Out to deny the Knights’ bid for back-to-back crown this season are Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School, Koblerville Elementary School, Kagman Elementary School, William S. Reyes Elementary School, and Garapan Elementary School.
Garapan will challenge Mt. Carmel in one of the opening games tomorrow at the former’s turf at 3:45pm. The two other matches in the opener will have GTC hosting WSR at 4:45pm and Kagman going to Koblerville to challenge the Umangs, also in a 4:45pm tiff.
Each match will be played in an 8 vs 8 format (game can still be played provided a team has at least five players) and in two 20-minute halves with a five-minute break. The league will follow a single-round robin play in the elimination and the Top 4 team will advance to the playoffs. The No. 1 and 4 ranked squads will collide in the semis set for Dec. 19 at the Hopwood Middle School Field, while the No. 2 and 3 teams will duel in the other Final Four pairing. The finals is scheduled for Dec. 21, also at the Hopwood pitch.
In the girls division, WSR is back to defend its title and will be up against Kagman, Koblerville, Mt. Carmel, and GTC. WSR won its third championship last year after edging Brilliant Star/Whispering Palms in a shootout, 2-1.
The three-time champion will start its title defense against GTC tomorrow at 3:45pm at the latter’s field. Then over at the Koblerville pitch, it will be the Umangs versus Kagman. Mt. Carmel drew a bye in the opening day and will have its first game on Dec. 5 opposite GTC at the Hopwood pitch.
The girls division has the same format as the boys’ both in the elimination and playoffs. The semis and finals matches will also take place on Dec. 19 and 21.
