Aqua Resort to open romantic dining resto
Looking for a place where you can have a romantic date? Look no further than Aqua Resort Club’s Kevin’s The Prime Rib and Seafood Restaurant.
General manager Kevin Tsurui said the concept of the former Raraina Restaurant started out when one of his employees asked for his advice.
“Back in January one of our employees came up to me and told me that he was thinking of proposing marriage to his girlfriend but the his problem was he could not find a romantic restaurant on island. After thinking about it, I agreed with him.”
At the same time, as Aqua Resort Club GM, Tsurui was frequently approached by regular customers who would always ask him, “You used to serve the greatest prime rib and Caesar salad. Why did you stop that?”
That gave him the idea to combine a romantic restaurant with one that serves the resort’s famous prime rib and Caesar salad—Kevin’s The Prime Rib and Seafood Restaurant—that focuses on a romantic ambiance and serves great food and wine, together with excellent service.
“When I hear the word romantic, I see old Hollywood. The classic movies like Casablanca, An Affair to Remember, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the like.” Tsurui said.
That’s reflected in the restaurant’s decor. The walls’ red, black, and white colors and accents are highlighted by the glow of dim lights and candlelit tables. Framed photos of Old Hollywood actors and actresses are aplenty.
“The photos are a conversation starter. All those details—pen lights, cozy booths, music from the movies as background—makes Kevin’s the most romantic and highest quality restaurant on Saipan,” Tsurui said.
The prime ribs itself will be served on a wagon by the chef, who will be serving guests four different kinds of cuts: Saipan cut, Kevin’s cut, Golden Alex ward cut, and Michelle’s cut.
“The Saipan cut is composed of three thin slices for people who do not want a thick slice. Michelle’s cut is for the light meat eater, Golden Alex ward cut is a 14-ounce meat with bone (tomahawk style), and Kevin’s cut is the popular cut named after the restaurant,” he said.
Appetizers will be a fusion of Japanese, French, and traditional American food.
“We have scallops from Hokkaido, Japan. We don’t cook all the way so it is served half-raw, sitting on a bed of truffle and mushroom sauce with caviar on top and also raw salmon that melts in your mouth because it is so tender,” he said.
The restaurant not only serves steak; it also has seafood, according to Aqua Resort Club sales and marketing assistant manager Victoria Sorell. “People can expect a nice combination of dishes because we…have something for everyone.”
A waiter will make your Caesar salad in front of you, with the dressing made from scratch.
Tsurui said the restaurant can seat 102 people: 92 on the floor and 10 for the private room.
“We also have a la carte menu and serve other kinds of meat like grilled pork chop and chicken,” Tsurui said.
Kevin’s The Prime Rib and Seafood Restaurant will open its doors to the public on Dec. 1 It will be open from 6:30pm to 10pm. A 10-percent discount is available for residents.
