BEH closes 2 establishments

The Bureau of Environmental Health closed down two restaurants in October. Oriental Dumpling Restaurant in Chalan Laulau and Susan’s Catering in San Vicente.

Both got Grade C ratings during sanitary inspections in October, garnering a score between 70-79 out of 100.

According to BEH director John M. Tagabuel, establishments that receive a Grade C rating are suspended but will be able to go back to operations once they correct the problems cited.

“We close down establishments due to bad practices either in sanitation, required food flow not followed properly, food storage or cooking, sewer system issues, and perhaps the establishment is infested with rodents or cockroaches,” he said. “However, even with a Grade C rating, establishments still have an opportunity to resume operations after they identify discrepancies and are able to implement corrective actions that will satisfy BEH standards,” Tagabuel added.

BEH conducts inspections twice a year—one for renewal and one unannounced inspection.

“Inspection can be more than twice, especially when BEH receives a complaint and concern. We go to the complained restaurant right away and conduct our own inspection to see if the complaint has basis,” he said.

The BEH gives a rating of Grade A for establishments garnering a score between 90-100 and Grade B for establishments garnering a score between 80-89.

The establishments that received Grade A ratings are Herman’s Modern Bakery (Airport Road), Uncle Ed’s Restaurant (Kagman). Saipan Seaside Restaurant (Garapan), Shell Koblerville, Guang Zhou Restaurant KTV (Garapan), Saipan Marianas Noni (Garapan), Lin De Xuan Restaurant (Garapan), all outlets of Saipan LauLau Development Inc. (The Grill Restaurant, Black Ruby Karaoke Club, Pro-Shop Retail, Tea House (East & West) Golf Tower Snack Bar, Golf Tower Cafeteria, and Café Bay Pool Bar), REQ Day & Night Child Care Center (Navy Hill), Pelly’s Apprentice Shop NMTI (Lower Base), New Garapan Market (Garapan), Nipa Hut Catering (Garapan), The Nipa Hut Bar (Garapan), The Nipa Hut Restaurant (Garapan), Fina Sisu Market (Fina Sisu), The Water Company (Lower Base), Subway Restaurant’s “Foremost Scoop” (Gualo Rai), Boka Boka Restaurant (San Jose), Ace Hardware (San Vicente), I Love Saipan Trade Zone Product (Chalan Laulau), I Love Saipan #15 (Garapan), Tang Ji Restaurant (Gualo Rai), Royal Sourcing Fast Food (Chalan Kanoa), La Bella Restaurant (Garapan), S.P.E. Wholesale (Chalan Kiya), S.P.E. Retail (Chalan Kiya), and Duty Free Shoppers (Susupe).

The establishments that received a Grade B rating are Flame Tree Lounge Bar, New ABCD Market (Koblerville), J’s Restaurant “Bowling” (San Jose), Truong’s Restaurant (Susupe), American Pizza & Grill (Garapan), Jo-Lyn’s Kitchen (Susupe), and Good Day Restaurant (Susupe).
