More than 100 students join All Schools swim meet

Over 100 students in elementary, middle, and high school joined 19 individual and five relays races in the 2017 Saipan Swim Club All Schools Swim Meet held last Saturday at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool.
The weekend competition started with a mixed U12’s 200m medley relay and featured student-swimmers from Brilliant Star School, Grace Christian Academy, and William S. Reyes Elementary School. For the second relay, students raced in the mixed over 10’s 200m medley relay and the participating schools included GCA, Marianas High School, Mt. Carmel School, and Tanapag Middle School.
The succeeding events were individual swims—over 10 and U12’s 400m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 200m freestyle, 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m breaststroke, 100m backstroke, 200m individual medley, and 100m freestyle. The meet then concluded with three relay races—200m freestyle relay in the mixed U12, over 10, and over 13.
Results of the individual and relay events have yet to be released at press time as the organizing SSC was still sorting them out to determine the rankings of the participating schools in each division. School rankings will be based on how students finish in the race as SSC awarded points to the Top 2 finishers from each school.
Pending the official results of the competition, GCA was favored in the high school and middle school divisions. Lennosuke Suzuki, Jasmin Frink, Jinju Thompson, and Aika Watanabe swam for the Eagles’ high school crew, while their middle school team was made up of Ashley Dangol, Anthony Deleon-Camacho, Julia Jinang, Lamar Soleil, Kean Pajarillaga, Hans Xu, and Andrew Nunez.
The David Boyer-led MHS Dolphins and Christian Villacrusis-bannered MCS challenged GCA in the high school division, while the Eagles’ toughest foe in the middle school was Tanapag, which had members of both SSC and Tsunami Saipan. Hopwood Junior High School also participated in the weekend meet.
In the elementary division, there was an open competition, as GCA, Brilliant Star, WSR, Koblerville Elementary School, Saipan International School, Saipan Community School, and Gregorio T. Camacho Elemetary School fielded strong competitors.
