Tan Holdings, CTSI, TSL Foundation raise $53K for Haiyan victims

Employees from the different companies under Tan Holdings, as well as sister company CTSI Logistics, donated the total amount of $53,074 for the survivors of super typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

Super typhoon Haiyan, with winds of up to 200 mph, is considered the strongest cyclone ever to make landfall. It carved a path of destruction across central Philippines, leaving close to 4,000 dead, 4 million people displaced, and over 571,000 homes damaged.

Tan Holdings president and CTSI Logistics CEO Jerry Tan represented the companies in a simple turnover ceremony held yesterday with Philippine Consulate General Bayani Mangibin at the latter’s office in Guam.

Tan handed over two checks amounting to $27,874 and $25,200, representing the donations from employees of Tan Holdings and CTSI Logistics, respectively. The Tan Siu Lin Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Tan Holdings, also helped by matching the amounts raised by the employees.

“Haiyan was a truly unfortunate tragedy, and we immediately wanted to help. And it was through the compassion, concern, and initiative of our team members that we were able to raise this amount,” said Tan.

Eli Arago, Tan Holdings SVP, added: “Tan Holdings employees were very supportive and they gave their donations wholeheartedly. I did not expect that we could raise this much and I am very grateful to all our employees that in spite of all the hardships, they did not have second thoughts and were very much willing to help.”

In response, Consul General Bayani Mangibin conveyed his heartfelt thanks to Tan, the Executive Teams, and employees of Tan Holdings for the generous donations. In a statement, the Consul General added that the donations “will go a long way to help our severely affected Filipino brothers and sisters and will also give them hope and inspiration to rise from this tragedy.”

Tan added, “Our work doesn’t end here. There are many other ways to help. We have a CTSI Logistics station and some affiliate companies based in Manila, as well as our Corporate Support Group. Being closer to the area affected by the storm, they are also reaching out in ways that can more directly impact the survivors in a positive way. There will be a long process of rebuilding, and through our offices in Manila, we will continue to care and to help.” (PR)
