DPS classifies Dela Cruz’s death as homicide
The Department of Public Safety has reclassified the death of a Commonwealth Casino Commission employee who was found dead on the ground outside his home on Mt. Tapochau on Capital Hill last Sept. 22 as a “homicide.”
Acting DPS spokesman Lt. Jason Tarkong said yesterday that Guam chief medical examiner Dr. Aurelio Espinola had ruled that the cause of Allan James Boyer Dela Cruz’s death as “undetermined.”
Basically, Espinola could not determine Dela Cruz’s cause of death, he said. In cases when the cause of death is “undetermined,” police usually classify a case as a “homicide.”
“We are treating it as a homicide,” Tarkong said.
Espinola conducted the autopsy at the Commonwealth Health Center’s morgue last Oct. 21, weeks after the body was found on Sept. 22.
In an earlier statement, Tarkong said police responded last Sept. 22 at 2:14pm to a report about a dead person at a house on Mt. Tapochau.
Police met at the scene witnesses who has found Dela Cruz’s body.
Police investigators said the victim was found lying on the ground outside the residence and the body was already decomposing.
Witnesses reportedly attempted the past few days to contact Dela Cruz, but he did not reply. The witnesses then decided to check on him at his residence and found the body.
