XTRA Airways flights suspended
XTRA Airways flights from China to Saipan were cancelled starting Nov. 10, three months after it opened flights from Nanjing, to Saipan.
Thomas Nolte, XTRA Airways’ Pacific Operations manager, confirmed the flight cancellation yesterday evening.
“XTRA Airways’ China service is indefinitely suspended due to certain contractual issues with our Chinese client, Dream Pacific Aviation Services HK Ltd.,” he said.
An initial explanation about the suspension of flights was explained by XTRA Airways president & CEO Frank J. Visconti to employees in letter dated Nov. 11.
“In October 2106, XTRA Airways was pursued by Dream Pacific Aviation Services HK Ltd. to provide passenger charter services between Saipan and China. Though the program took far longer to develop than Dream Pacific had projected, XTRA Airways executed a contract to operate a 737-800 series aircraft on behalf of Dream Pacific,” the letter stated.
In March 2017, a subsequent contract for a second aircraft to be also be based on Saipan was initiated. However, Dream Pacific did not honor the terms of the agreement, according to Visconti.
Be that as it may, Nolte assures the public that discussions are currently ongoing “to find a viable solution.”
