Boleros tame Bears to stay undefeated

The Boleros used a 10-run first inning in cruising to a 19-6 victory over the Papa Bears in one of two shortened matches in the Masters division of the Saipan Baseball League last Wednesday night at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.
It was the Boleros’ sixth straight win, while the Bears absorbed their first loss in six games to remain at the bottom of the standings.
Mike Guerrero was perfect at the plate for the Boleros, going 3-for-3 and scoring three times. He also had two RBIs and two triples, including a two-RBI triple in that 10-run surge.
Alvin Tarope went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs, while Gus Pangelinan batted 2-for-3 with two runs, a double, and two RBIs.
Dave Kapileo was tagged with two earned runs on two hits while walking three batters and striking out another in two innings. Steve Igisaiar closed out for the Boleros as he gave up one hit, four runs (two earned), and one walk.
The SBL played back-to-back Masters games last Wednesday to offset the canceled and rained-out matches last month. They followed a two-hour time limit with the match automatically ending even if the trailing team is about to bat. The Boleros-Bears match lasted only three innings with the latter choosing to call it a game after one of their players suffered an injury.
IPI 9, GSM 7
In the first game, IPI pitcher Mel Sakisat threw four complete innings and surrendered three earned runs on four hits against GSM while retiring four batters and walking two more in the shortened match.
IPI is now in second place with a 4-1 slate, while GSM is at fourth with its 1-4 mark. IPI and GSM played for four and 1/2 innings and the game was stopped due to the two-hour time limit.
Joe Torres went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, while Robert Repeki went 2-for-3 and scored three times. Ralph Yumul also went 2-for-3, making two singles.
Bill Camacho started for GSM and struck out six with one walk, but gave up four earned runs on nine hits. Walter Macaranas relieved him at the top of the fifth, allowing one earned run on one hit with a walk and two strikeouts.
