Flores, Union Bank rest case

Both sides rested yesterday in the ongoing federal jury trial of Derron Gerard Flores’ lawsuit against the MUFG Union Bank over his late father’s $200,000 time certificate of deposit.
Juan T. Lizama, counsel for Flores, rested the case after presenting his seventh witness.
U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona is presiding over the trial.
Lizama presented on Tuesday six witnesses: expert Donald S. Skupsky, MUFG Union Bank senior vice president Lisa Rockwell, former Union Bank Saipan and First Hawaiian Bank general manager Ken Kato, FHB manager Victoria B. Concepcion, Commonwealth Development Authority loan manager Oscar C. Camacho, and Derron Flores’ late father, former Saipan mayor Donald G. Flores.
Lizama and his staff read in court Donald’s deposition as well as the declarations of Skupsky and Rockwell. Deposition refers to the taking of testimony of a witness outside of court.
Lizama and his staff also read the deposition of Donald’s late wife, Cecilia Flores, at the continuation of the trial yesterday.
Attorneys Sean Frink and Catherine Cachero, counsel for Union Bank, called the bank’s only witness: former Union Bank Saipan employee and current Commonwealth Development Authority employee Lourdes S. Deleon Guerrero.
After Deleon Guerrero completed her testimony, Frink said the bank rests.
Manglona instructed the juror to return today, Thursday, at noon for closing arguments.
Deleon Guerrero basically testified that she met Donald only twice—when he bought the $200,000 how what to do to get the money.
On Tuesday, Kato testified that he heard about Donald’s TCD only when he got sued.
